Manual Therapy for Pain Mitigation

Massage therapy for mild or severe pain mitigation works by integrating targeted applications of advanced massage therapy techniques with the relaxing and familiar strokes of Swedish massage in order to activate the parasympathetic nervous system—our rest and relaxation state—while targeting specific systems within the body.

Also known as Deep Tissue Massage, this modality aims to target and interact with the soft tissue structure. Usually performed in a specific area, the therapist will use a variety of pressures to engage the muscle to increase blood flow and relieve adhesions. Cross friction strokes are directly applied to the muscle belly to help realign muscle fibers that have tangled to create an adhesion. This form of massage is perfect for clients who are suffering from short-term muscular pain or acute muscular strain due to minor injuries who still want some benefit from more of a relaxation oriented session.

This form of deep tissue does not imply a deep pressure but rather a stylistic form of manual therapy.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy is a form of manual therapy that targets the nervous system, using the brain’s control over the body to change existing pain patterns. Neuromuscular Therapy uses softer pressure and ischemic compressions (micromovements) that work to stimulate the nervous system. Effecting the musculature through the nervous system provides a longer-lasting solution to pain, as it helps address the root of chronic pain responses.

This type of technique is perfectly suited for clients who are experiencing intense muscular pain, who have sought out other therapies in the past that haven’t corrected the issue, clients who are recovering from injuries, and pre and post surgery treatments.

Swedish Massage Therapy

The modality of Swedish Massage is typically used in a spa environment to calm and relax the client. Using long, sweeping strokes, the therapists main goal in this type of session is to increase blood flow and relaxation in their client while decreasing general muscle tension. Perfect for clients who don’t have a specific area of pain but rather are seeking relief from stress, insomnia, depression and anxiety, or full body aches.

Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology Tape decompresses fascia, the connective tissue that envelops the muscular system. This decompression allows your muscles to slide more fluidly—less restriction means less pain and also greater range of motion. Kinesiology tape also promotes neuromuscular reeducation, increasing brain proprioception in the body, reducing muscular dysfunction and pain.
